BABY FOOD – WHAT, WHEN AND HOW

Everybody, certainly, mothers know why food should be given to babies. Who should give it and where are also well known. Then remain the three more basic questions – what, when and how.It is universally accepted that gerber baby food in india for the infants between 0 and 12 months of age -  is the best. Due to unavoidable reasons, substitutes may be used and solids may be fed months before the first year. A verifiable fact is that (babies fed on mother’s milk are a healthy lot.

As the baby grows older, himalaya baby products may be given to infants. The preferred ones are fruits and vegetables. Apples, pears, peas, carrots or anything else recommended by your doctor is o.k. Banana, avocado are the preferred fruits while sweet potato is the favored vegetable. It is better to peel fruits and vegetables:

To make them easier for your baby to digest

Taste of peel may not be liked by your baby

            To prevent choking

Do not add salt and sugar when making the baby food and it is preferable that mother (caretaker) prepares the baby food to limit unnecessary ingredients. Mash banana or avocado with a fork, add a little water, formula or breast milk, if it is too thick. Chop vegetable or fruit and cook it either by steaming, baking or boiling, though steaming holds most of the nutrients. Make puree in a food processor or blender until smooth with desired consistency.

However, there are some foods to be avoided when feeding a baby, to avoid allergic reactions and digestive problems :  egg white, cow milk, peanut, peanut butter, shellfish- lobster, prawn, crab, shrimp, pork, wheat, oats, barley, soy, corn/ popcorn, chocolate, strawberries, cinnamon, tomatoes, citrus fruits - orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime, tangerine, sesame seeds/ sesame oil, yeast, Large chunks of fruits / vegetables (raw or cooked) /meat.ALWAYS use clean hands, clean cooking vessels, and clean methods while preparing homemade baby foods. It is better to be SAFE than be sorry.Introduce one food at a time and continue for at least  4 days to detect any allergic reactions before making it a regular one. Always look for intolerance from baby’s side. Their tastes differ too! Kids furniture also are mesmerizing!
