Fruits Are Worth The Effort!

In common parlance, fruit is the edible part of a plant and contains the seeds and is generally sweet and pulpy, while botanically speaking, it is ripened ovary or ovaries of a seed bearing plant together with accessory parts. Fruits shop does occur in a wide variety of forms. Again, some common vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers are fruits in a botanical sense.

In general, fruits are beneficial to us since they have low glycemic index and keep blood sugar at a manageable and healthy level. This is possible because fruits contain nutrients, vitamins, fibers .Some dried fruits like raisins, cranberries, prunes are healthy too but should be eaten in moderation because of high

calorie content.

Not everyone is fortunate to obtain fresh fruits or just as they ripen in shopping food So when we wish to include fruits in our diet, buying in a shop or a super- market is inevitable. While shopping for fruits, in fact, for any food, some guidelines are available:

a.     Buy in appropriate season eg. Summer for mangoes

b.    Consider frozen, canned or dried options. Go only if you need them.

c.     Waste not, want not

d.    Go for simpler versions

e.     Buy in bulk, only if you can use effectively

f.      Plan how you transport what you buy. If not, you may end up with useless stuff at the end of your trip.

g.     Spare a thought how you are going to store what you have bought—safely with minimum spoilage.

h.    Club shopping for fruits with that of other foods and remember two heads are better than one.

The flip side of fruits is the side effects of chemicals and pesticides used in their large scale production. These are mainly health related, from cancer to infertility. Best way to overcome this problem is to buy organic fruits, wash them well before use. If you can grow the fruits you use, nothing like that.

Fruits and vegetables are also thought of as the culmination of your intentions and efforts. And they are also the result of your labor either good or bad. Remember the story of Adam, Eve and the Apple!
